#BlackHistoryFacts | Shirley Chisholm

Happy Black History Month!!! To commemorate this important month, I will be posting daily black history facts to highlight and honor the amazing accomplishments of black people in the United States.

Black History Fact #1

Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman ever to serve in the U.S. Congress. She was elected in 1968 as representative from New York. She served for 7 terms from 1969 to 1983. In 1972, Shirley Chisholm became the first black person candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

Thank you Shirley Chisholm for being a trailblazer!
